Monells is a town that belongs to the Baix Empordà, integrated with the municipalities of Cruïlles and Sant Sadurní de l'Heura, forming part of the Natural Park of Les Gavarres and being protected as a Space of Natural Interest.
The origin of his name (Monells) It is related to the water mills of the river that crosses and divides the town, the river Rissec.
Its history goes back to the year 1102, moment in which the Castle of the Bizcondes de Bas was built, around which one of the towns with the most beautiful medieval legacy in Catalonia was built, visible in their squares, streets and buildings.
